He also served a Director of Research Institute for Computer and Communication.     His main research interests are the temporal, spatial, and spatiotemporal databases and their related area included temporal GIS, active database, data mining, database security, knowledge base information retrieval, and bioinformatics database. He has been worked especially with implementation of temporal data management prototype, the temporal database application for audit trail system in secure EDI system and fire wall, and knowledge information retrieval system. He also has done the projects which are temporal GIS, spatiotemporal database modeling, active temporal database prototype, Feature based DDMS on objected oriented fashion , spatiotemporal inferencing and Data mining for DB marketing, modeling of protein database and information retrieval and analysis system for protein structure.     Currently, he has several on going projects which are a prototype of data management supporting active mining for bioinformatics data, a data management system for Gene and protein databases, a temporal GIS(4D) and moving object, data mining on temporal, spatial, and spatiotemporal, a security and hacking on mobile E services.     He was a PC member of the DASFAA'95, DASFAA'97 and Korean SIGDB'96, Korean SIGDB'97, PAKDD'00, PAKDD'03, and APWeb'03. He also serverd vice-chair for Korean SIGDB'99. He is serving as chair of SIGKDE 2000-2003, He has published extensively lots of research literatures including the spatiotemporal databases and temporal pattern mining, and he has recently authored a book 'Database: An Introduction'.     Keun Ryu teaches databases(spatial and temporal), spatial data structure, and information retrieval courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Keun Ryu is also the supervisor of several Ms and PhD students.     Keun Ryu has collaborated not only with ETRI, Korea Telecom, KISITI, KOSEF RRC, NacsNet Co Ltd, Korea Telecom Information Technology, and Infovil Co, but also with Inha University and Cheongju University. He also has started the collaboration with the Time Center in Denmak and U.S.A.
